Introduction

LostCatAdvice.com (“we”) promise to respect any personal information you share with us and to keep it safe. We aim to be clear when we collect your information and not do anything you without your knowledge or consent.

In accordance with international legislation including Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), the EU Cookie Directive and the CAN-SPAM Act.

Developing a better understanding of our online audience through their personal information allows us to make better decisions and create better content more effectively. We have developed this Privacy Policy to make it understandable to our audience.

We operate an ‘opt-in only’ communications policy. This means that we will only send marketing communications to those people who have explicitly stated that they are happy for us to do so and only via e-mail.

E-mails we send may include promotional information about products we are affiliated with.

We do not ever produce nor send any printed material, letters, leaflets or fliers and we never distribute hard copies of information through the mail. Nor do we ever collect telephone numbers of our readers. We never contact anyone by phone.

Where we collect information about you from

We collect information in the following ways:

When you give it to us DIRECTLY

You may give us your information if you decide to subscribe to our mailing list via the sign-up form on this website. You may also contact us with a query, either by e-mail or via the online web form.

Our Mailing List

If you choose to join our email newsletter, the email address that you submit to us will be forwarded to MailChimp who provide us with email marketing services. We consider MailChimp to be a third party data processor (see below). The email address that you submit will not be stored within this website’s own database or in any of our internal computer systems.

Your email address will remain within MailChimp’s database for as long as we continue to use MailChimp’s services for email marketing or until you specifically request removal from the list. You can do this by unsubscribing using the unsubscribe links contained in any email newsletters that we send you or by e-mailing us here. When requesting removal via email, please send your email to us using the email account that is subscribed to the mailing list.

When you give it to us INDIRECTLY

Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third-party products or services on our website.

When we collect it as you use our WEBSITE

In common with most websites, LostCatAdvice.com website uses “cookies” to help us make our website – and the way you use it – better. Cookies mean that a website will remember you. They are small text files that sites transfer to your computer (or phone or tablet). They make interacting with a website faster and easier – for example by automatically filling your name and address in text fields. There are more details in our Cookie Policy below.

In addition, the type of device you are using to access our website or apps and the settings on that device may provide us with information about your device, including what type of device it is, what operating system you are using, what your device settings are, or why a crash has happened. Your device manufacturer or operating system provider will have more details about what information your device makes available to us.

The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Cookies Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work better, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site. A cookie often contains a unique number, which can be used to recognise your computer when a user of your computer returns to a website that it visited previously.

How does LostCatAdvice.com use cookies?

We use cookies to enhance the experience of visitors to our website, to deliver advertising, to track affiliate links and to better understand how our website is used. Cookies may tell us, for example, whether you have visited our site before or whether you are a new visitor.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Your rights

Our cookies do not store financial information or information which is capable of directly identifying you (such as your name or address). You have the right to choose whether to accept these cookies. You can exercise this right by amending or setting the controls on your browser to reflect your cookie preferences. However, please note that if you choose to refuse cookies you may not be able to use the full functionality of our website.

Changing your cookie preferences

For a full explanation of what cookies are and information on how to block them using the settings on your Internet browser, click here to be directed to the WikiHow instructions on disabling cookies.

Cookie terminology

We have classified our cookies into two broad types – ‘first party cookies’ and ‘third party cookies’:

First party cookies are cookies that are served directly by the website operator to your computer and are often used to recognise your computer when it revisits that site and to remember your preferences as you browse the site.

Third party cookies are served by a service provider on behalf of the website operator and can be used by the service provider to recognise your computer when it visits other websites. Third party cookies are used for a variety of reasons, most commonly used for website analytics or advertising purposes. More details are provided in the third-party cookie section (below).

In addition, cookies may be either ‘session cookies’ or ‘persistent cookies’. Your computer automatically removes session cookies once you close your browser. Persistent cookies will survive on your computer until an expiry date specified in the cookie itself, is reached.

Cookies set by third parties

If you go on to a page on our website that contains embedded content, for example, YouTube or Twitter, you may be sent cookies from these websites.

We do not control the setting of these cookies, so we suggest you check the third-party website for more information about their cookies and how to manage them.
